£25m English midfielder wanted by Liverpool and Arsenal named among the world’s 30 best young players

Liverpool and Arsenal are presently occupying the top two positions in the Premier League standings and are determined to maintain their strong performances as the season progresses.

Liverpool has experienced a successful campaign during Arne Slot’s inaugural season at Anfield; however, they are likely to seek additional reinforcements after their underwhelming results in cup competitions.

On the other hand, Arsenal may feel disheartened by their performance in the Premier League this season and will be eager to make a significant impact in the title race next season.

Both clubs have shown interest in acquiring midfielders, including an English talent who has recently been recognized as one of the best young players globally.

Chris Rigg deemed the 29th best teenager in world football

The player in focus is Chris Rigg from Sunderland, who has established himself as one of the most promising young talents in English football.

Liverpool has reportedly shown interest in Rigg, with some insiders suggesting he could surpass Adam Wharton in terms of impact.

Graeme Bailey, chief correspondent for TBR Football, confirmed that scouts from Arsenal and Tottenham were present to observe Rigg during his match against Millwall in November.

Additionally, scouts from Arsenal and Manchester United were seen watching Rigg in Sunderland’s 3-2 victory over local rivals Middlesbrough in February, according to sources from TBR Football.

Goal.com has recently ranked Rigg as the 29th best teenager in global football in their latest NxGn list, which highlights the top 50 young players in the sport.

“Sunderland is currently engaged in a fight for promotion back to the Premier League,” they stated.

“However, even if the Black Cats do not succeed, the homegrown midfielder Chris Rigg is almost certain to leave the Championship this summer, as a growing number of England’s top clubs are eager to secure one of the most impressive talents from the second tier.

“The 17-year-old made headlines in August 2023 by becoming Sunderland’s youngest-ever goal-scorer, and after a season of limited appearances last year, Rigg has now become a regular in Regis Le Bris’ lineup at the Stadium of Light.

“Manchester United has long been associated with the dynamic young player, while Arsenal, Liverpool, and even Real Madrid are reportedly keeping a close eye on his development.”

How much Chris Rigg could cost

While many emerging talents often come with exorbitant price tags, Rigg might be obtainable for under £30 million—a relatively modest sum in today’s market.

Reports indicate that, although Sunderland has previously rebuffed inquiries for their valuable player, they are now open to negotiations beginning at £25 million.

It is quite uncommon for a player of such a young age to have already made over 50 competitive appearances for his club, indicating that Rigg has a remarkable future ahead.

Considering this, Rigg appears to be a promising target, though it is likely that he will attract significant interest during the summer transfer window.
