Real Madrid are reportedly set to make Alvaro Carreras their next signing after a fast start to the summer that also has them closing in on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen.
According to a source from AS, the signing of Carreras from Benfica is 90% complete, and the deals for Alexander-Arnold and Huijsen are all but finalized.
With Xabi Alonso expected to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as the team’s new manager, it appears that the Bernabeu is about to enter an exciting new chapter.
Carreras, a former Manchester United player, also had a clause that may have allowed him to return to Old Trafford at a reduced cost, according to the AS report.
However, it appears that the gifted young Spaniard will be moving from Benfica to Madrid.
Alvaro Carreras to Real Madrid makes sense, but Man United will regret letting him go
Carreras appears to be a fantastic addition to Real Madrid, but United has made yet another mistake in the transfer market.
Carreras has rapidly progressed at Benfica, although the Red Devils didn’t give him much of an opportunity when they had him.
Now, the 22-year-old would undoubtedly start frequently at Old Trafford and be a valuable member of Alonso’s Madrid team.
Should United have signed Carreras over Patrick Dorgu?
In January, United bolstered their left-back position by acquiring Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
However, it appears that Carreras might have been a more suitable choice, as Dorgu has struggled to adapt to the Premier League.
It is possible that Benfica was less inclined to part with Carreras during the season, indicating that the opportunity for MUFC may not have been available at that time, despite the evident need for a new left-back.
