Manchester United star backed to become the ‘next William Saliba’

Mikael Silvestre, an Old Trafford hero, has described a Manchester United defender as the ‘next William Saliba’.

United are having another disappointing season, currently lying 14th in the Premier League table, 33 points behind Liverpool.

Good news has been few for the Manchester giants, but Silvestre feels his previous club does have a man who has the potential to become one of the best in his area.

Manchester United spent more than £50 million to sign Leny Yoro from Lille last summer, making him the most expensive player aged 18 or younger and one of the most expensive centre-backs in history.

Yoro only spent one complete season with the Ligue 1 club, although he drew interest from Liverpool, Real Madrid, and United.

The 19-year-old missed the first four months of the season due to an injury sustained in preseason, but has begun to feature extensively for the Red Devils since December.

Silvestre reckons Yoro can be a ‘major force at Manchester United in the coming years’ and emulate Arsenal defender Saliba, who has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world at the Emirates Stadium.

‘From his time at Lille, we’ve seen that he’s athletically dominant, makes the correct decisions when recovering the ball, and has good timing,’ Silvestre told the Daily Mirror.

‘It’s sad that he was hurt early in preseason, because I believe he will be a huge force at United in the coming years.

‘He still has a lot to learn; he isn’t the final item, but he has so much promise. When you look at [William] Saliba and [Ibrahima] Konate for France, I believe he is next in line.
