Aston Villa star shares actual Marcus Rashford feelings following club-wide suspension.

Aston Villa have apparently attempted to prevent media from asking questions about Marcus Rashford, whose transfer from Manchester United has added to Unai Emery’s abundance of offensive alternatives.

Aston Villa forward Leon Bailey has welcomed Marcus Rashford’s arrival, even though it means greater competition for spots.

Bailey, 27, has been joined in the Midlands by the Manchester United loanee, giving Villa manager Unai Emery an abundance of attacking alternatives. Rashford was not the only forward to join in January; they also signed Donyell Malen for £20 million and loaned Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain.

Villa’s enhanced squad depth provides them more opportunities to contend for the FA Cup and Champions League, and Bailey is looking forward to competing with Rashford, whose high-profile arrival has already changed things up off the pitch. There has been so much clamour since the United star’s transfer that Villa have reportedly banned journalists from questioning their players about Rashford, who may be signed permanently for £40 million this summer.

“There’s always competition, but that’s not the most important thing,” Bailey told the Birmingham Mail. “I believe that the most crucial aspect is the ability to play well together.

“It doesn’t matter who is up front, and I believe that is the most important factor to consider, rather than the competition that exists. We understand that we all have talent, are good players, and can contribute. Can you contribute while playing together?

“I believe that’s something we’ve been focussing on, and so far it’s been effective, which is encouraging. When you play with the same folks on a regular basis, you get to know them better and faster. I think it’s going good so far, and maybe it’ll click when we need it to.”

The Jamaican winger was asked if he felt intimidated by the prospect of competing against Rashford, Asensio, and Malen. “No, I don’t think that’s ever been the focus,” Bailey said. “I believe that is more so for the media. That is something you should think about. But honestly, we, the players, do not think like that.

“We’re all on the same team, with the same objectives and goals. As I have stated, it is more important for us to gel and play well together. Whoever is on the pitch, ensure that the link is established. Because that is the only way we will win the game.
