Samuel Luckhurst outlines what Man Utd fans did to Hojlund during the Fulham match.

According to Samuel Luckhurst, Manchester United fans cheered when Ruben Amorim substituted Rasmus Hojlund against Fulham in the FA Cup.

Hojlund has struggled at Old Trafford, failing to score in his previous 18 games. The Danish attacker isn’t totally to blame for his lack of goals, given United’s struggles to produce enough opportunities, but failing to score in 18 games is a huge concern for fans.

Luckhurst, reporting on X, claims that Hojlund’s substitution against Fulham elicited a sequence of applause from spectators, although he was also chastised for his’standoffish manner’. It’s a concerning situation, with fans plainly dissatisfied with Hojlund’s performances, especially because it’s not the first time they’ve cheered his substitution.

His performance against Ipswich Town also left something to be desired. Given that United spent a lot of money to sign him, it’s up to Ruben Amorim to get a deal done quickly. Creating more chances and getting Hojlund into positions where he can be dangerous would be a good start, but he’s had plenty of chances to score throughout his 18-game goalless streak.

The fans’ response to Hojlund being substituted again will not boost the striker’s confidence, but they are rightly dissatisfied with his lack of impact. The Danish forward is going through a difficult phase and will need the supporters’ support, but something will have to give on the pitch.

Because United lacks attacking options, Amorim will find it tough to remove him from the squad and give Hojlund a break from the spotlight. Their January transfer transactions were ineffective, as Antony and Marcus Rashford left without being replaced.

It will be intriguing to see what United do in the summer transfer window, as they have been linked with a number of new strikers. Hojlund will likely go on trial between now and the end of the season in order to secure the number nine place.
