It is accurate to state that Manchester United is currently facing challenges regarding the available number nines for Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
The club’s roster includes Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and Chido Obi, a trio that does not quite measure up to the caliber of strikers who have represented the club historically, however unflattering that may seem.
Hojlund is encountering difficulties at United, and it is worth noting that Zirkzee may not be ideally suited for the number nine position, as he tends to excel in a deeper role.
As for Obi, at just 17 years of age, he undoubtedly possesses significant potential, making it unreasonable to hold him accountable for any of Amorim’s challenges in the attacking department. Nevertheless, it is indicative of the situation that the club has had to rely on the young player this season.
There remains hope that Obi may eventually achieve the same level of success as some of the legendary strikers who have worn United’s illustrious jersey in the past.
Andrea Pirlo lauds former Man United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Former Juventus player Andrea Pirlo has inadvertently commended a former Manchester United striker who departed the club in 2018. The signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a 34-year-old forward with a distinguished global reputation, generated significant media attention when he joined United in 2016. Over the course of his tenure, Ibrahimovic made 53 appearances for the club, netting 29 goals and securing both a League Cup and a Europa League title. In a recent discussion on IFTV, Pirlo expressed his belief that Ibrahimovic surpassed other renowned strikers, notably stating that he was superior to Luis Suarez. Although Ibrahimovic ultimately lost to Francesco Totti in Pirlo’s comparison, he was also favored over another former United striker, Edinson Cavani.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic said he just felt like a ‘number’ at Man United
In the past, Arsene Wenger expressed a desire for Arsenal to acquire Ibrahimovic, marking one of the numerous near-signings he later regretted during his tenure in north London.
Ultimately, it was Manchester United that the Swedish striker represented in England. In a conversation with The Athletic last year, he offered some intriguing insights regarding his experience at the club.
Reflecting on his two seasons there, Ibrahimovic remarked: “They were unlike anything I had previously encountered.
“I felt like just a number. My mindset was focused on creating my own legacy.
“I had no interest in the past, with all due respect. While it does create pressure to meet the expectations set by previous players,
“I was not inclined to heed the stories of the Class of ’92. That perspective does not assist me, as it is not my team (that I support), and I aimed to forge my own legacy.
“I wanted people to recognize that ‘You won, and United won this together.’”
