Chelsea is poised to gain an advantage over Manchester United in the transfer market.
The two prominent English clubs have engaged in numerous significant contests throughout the years. While they have competed fiercely on the field, they have also clashed in the realm of player transfers.
Currently, neither Chelsea nor Manchester United occupies the position they desire in the league standings; however, the Blues find themselves in a considerably stronger position than Ruben Amorim’s team.
This advantage may have facilitated their acquisition of one of United’s primary targets.
Chelsea are about to sign Manchester United target Geovany Quenda
Geovany Quenda is one of the most exciting young talents in Europe.
The talented Sporting CP player, who is just 17 years old, has established an impressive reputation in Portugal and has attracted significant interest from various clubs.
TBR Football has reported that Amorim aimed to recruit Quenda for Manchester United this summer. Other Premier League teams, including Arsenal and Liverpool, were also given the opportunity to acquire Quenda.
Amorim’s association with Old Trafford led many to speculate that Manchester United would be the frontrunners for the young talent, given his previous experience under the United manager at Sporting.
However, it appears that Chelsea has outpaced them in this pursuit.
Fabrizio Romano has disclosed that Chelsea has finalized an agreement to sign Quenda following a ‘secret blitz.’ The player has consented to join Enzo Maresca’s team, and a medical examination has already been completed in preparation for his transfer to West London in 2026.
Romano tweeted early Friday morning: “BREAKING: Chelsea agree deal for Portuguese top talent Geovany Quenda, here we go!
“Medical DONE for Quenda after secret blitz, he will join Chelsea in 2026. Club to club agreement completed with Sporting and Quenda said yes to Chelsea project & Enzo Maresca’s plans.”
What Portugal manager Roberto Martinez has said about Quenda?
Speaking about Quenda last year, Martinez said, as per FootBoom: “National coaches always say that age is not a criterion. I like Quenda’s example because it exemplifies this perfectly.
“He has shown incredible personality, quality, and adaptability. A player who loves to create imbalances. Technical quality, but a quality that is not normal for someone at 17 years old. He had an excellent European Championship with the U17s.
“He has stepped into the first team of Sporting and demonstrated an astonishing personality. And now he has shown that he is ready for the national team. Great news for Portuguese football.”
