‘Amazing’: Ruben Amorim blown away by one Erik ten Hag signing, he’s ‘doing incredible things’ for Man Utd

Manchester United continues to gain momentum under the leadership of Ruben Amorim, following a convincing 3-0 victory against Leicester City away from home on Sunday.

Amorim has ample reason to feel optimistic about the advancements made by Manchester United.

Last weekend, United played to a draw against Arsenal, a match in which they could have emerged victorious under different circumstances.

Subsequently, Amorim witnessed United triumph over Real Sociedad with a score of 4-1 in the Europa League, securing a place in the quarter-finals.

On Sunday, another positive outcome was achieved as United defeated Leicester City 3-0 on their travels.

Rasmus Hojlund has finally ended his goal drought, having opened the scoring, while Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes contributed to the decisive victory.

Ruben Amorim on Matthijs de Ligt

United’s performance under Amorim has been inconsistent, yet the last three matches have instilled a sense of optimism.

The squad’s confidence seems to be on the rise, and Amorim has expressed his admiration for Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutch defender played on the right side of United’s back three in the match against Leicester, mirroring his position in the game against Arsenal.

There were doubts regarding De Ligt’s suitability for this role, with some believing he is more effective in the central position of Amorim’s defensive setup.

De Ligt made a remarkable block to thwart Facundo Buonanotte, who looked set to score.

In an interview with MUTV following Sunday’s match, Amorim remarked that De Ligt is currently in “incredible” form.

He also noted that De Ligt does not accumulate many minutes with the Netherlands during international breaks, as he aims to keep him fresh for United’s matches.

“I think the last three weeks, Matthijs is doing incredible things,” said Amorim.

“I hope he doesn’t play a lot of games [for the national team] but plays a little bit, because he’s doing amazing,” he added.

De Ligt helping hold United defence together

Amorim is justified in commending De Ligt, as the 25-year-old is currently demonstrating significant improvement in his performance.

With Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Leny Yoro all sidelined due to injuries, and Victor Lindelof participating despite limited appearances this season, the pressure on De Ligt has intensified.

Additionally, Ayden Heaven has now sustained an injury, further increasing the expectation for De Ligt to assume a leadership role within the defense.

Reports indicate that Manchester United was not initially keen on acquiring De Ligt, and it was Erik ten Hag who advocated for his signing.

Given their previous collaboration at Ajax, this connection may provide some context; however, De Ligt is consistently proving his value, and it is hoped that this trend will persist.
