Ruben Amorim has offered an update regarding Ayden Heaven, who was stretchered off during Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City. Heaven, a defender acquired from Arsenal in January, made his second consecutive start against Leicester after earning a place in the United lineup due to an ongoing injury crisis.
He had previously delivered an impressive performance in the 4-1 Europa League round of 16 first leg against Real Sociedad on Thursday, maintaining his position in the back three alongside Victor Lindelof and Matthijs de Ligt.
However, misfortune struck early in the second half when Heaven fell to the ground following a seemingly harmless collision with Patson Daka while attempting to shield the ball out of play. He immediately exhibited signs of discomfort and received medical attention from both teams before being carried off on a stretcher, with Toby Collyer taking his place and Noussair Mazraoui shifting to a central defensive role.
Sky Sports opted not to broadcast the incident in which Heaven sustained his injury, and Amorim provided an update following the match. As reported by Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, Heaven “struggled to speak” after the injury occurred.
Amorim elaborated in his post-match interview with Sky Sports, saying: “It’s hard to know because we have to evaluate during the week. He already played well against Arsenal and Real Sociedad.
“Today for me was the most difficult game for him because we expect him to relax a bit, but he was so focused. It was clear today my players are at the limit. We are going to use this window to rest and recover, it will be good.
“The feeling is completely different. When we return it will be like starting from scratch.”
More positive update on Ayden Heaven
According to Tyrone Marshall of the Manchester Evening News, Heaven was observed departing the King Power Stadium while wearing a protective boot on his foot.
On a more positive note, he was able to walk unaided. Heaven transferred to United from Arsenal for a fee of £1 million and made his first appearance during the FA Cup penalty shoot-out loss to Fulham.
His injury contributes to the ongoing challenges faced by United, who are already missing long-term players Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martinez, as well as recently sidelined individuals Leny Yoro, Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Kobbie Mainoo.
The victory has propelled United to 13th place in the standings, with their next match scheduled against the in-form Nottingham Forest on April 1, following the international break.
