David Ornstein reveals Arsenal’s plans for Max Dowman, while ‘major teams’ try to steal him.

Arsenal’s ambitions for teenage phenom Max Dowman have been disclosed by Athletic journalist David Ornstein in his latest Q&A article, with the club hoping to persuade the offensive midfielder to sign professional terms before his 17th birthday at the Emirates.

The 15-year-old is making waves on the Gunners’ youth circuit and has even participated in first-team training this season, as interest in the wonderkid builds.

While Dowman is still in Arsenal’s ranks, things can change rapidly in youth football, as Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven have both left the club to join Manchester United in the last year.

Dowman isn’t eligible for a professional contract until he turns 17 at the end of 2026, but he can negotiate both and sign scholarship terms with the north London club before that important milestone.

Meanwhile, Ornstein believes Arsenal must demonstrate to Dowman that there is a pathway to the first team for him. Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly’s regular minutes this season should indicate that Arteta is willing to invest in young players if they are good enough, and he just flew to Dubai with the first team for cold weather training.

Ornstein adds that Dowman won’t be short of suitors should he decide he doesn’t want to stay with Arsenal.
