Due to the underwhelming performances of Manchester United’s prominent players and a series of injuries, Ruben Amorim has had to rely on the Academy, and the results have been promising.
The Portuguese manager has introduced Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven, and Harry Amass to the first team this season, placing the Red Devils second in the Premier League for the number of minutes granted to young talents.
According to various reports, the head coach is expected to continue this trend, with Sekou Kone likely to make his senior debut this season.
Moorhouse’s impressive skill-set
The Malian midfielder is not the only player who has caught the attention of the 40-year-old coach, as reported by The Peoples Person, with Jack Moorhouse also standing out to the former Sporting CP manager.
At just 19 years old, Moorhouse has recorded three goals and one assist in seven appearances for the U21 team, with his dribbling skills described as “unparalleled.”
In the latest reserve match against Nottingham Forest, the Mancunian showcased his talent by skillfully maneuvering past his defender in his own half and advancing the ball into the penalty area, where Chido Obi finished the impressive play.
According to The Daily Mail, Amorim is so taken by Moorhouse’s performances that a debut in the first team may be imminent before the end of the season.
First team debut on the cards
“His ability to drive through midfield is unparalleled compared to a lot of his peers in the United academy, and we reported back in December that his display at Carrington against Southampton caught Ruben Amorim’s eye.
“But there is growing confidence behind the scenes at United that the 19-year-old is in line to make his first-team debut before the end of the season.”
The Ireland U21 international has been included in two senior matchday squads, facing two clubs from North London, although he did not enter the game.
Notably, the report indicates that Moorhouse is garnering considerable loan interest from clubs in League One and League Two. Amorim is expected to closely observe his performance during the post-season Asia Tour and the upcoming pre-season tour in the United States.
More chances in the pipeline
“We understand that there have already been enquiries from multiple EFL League One and Two clubs keen on taking him on loan next season.
“It was also pointed out by sources that Moorhouse is a prime contender to feature on both the post-season tour in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, as well as the pre-season tour in the United States, in a bid to state his claims to Amorim.”
The Carrington graduate undoubtedly possesses the necessary skills to excel within the first-team setup, as Amorim’s squad is in need of a midfield ball carrier of his caliber.
Moorhouse’s next step is to maintain his diligent work ethic and, ideally, stay injury-free, allowing the club to benefit from his optimal performance in the near future.
