Manchester United’s 5-4 win over Lyon in the Europa League was full of talking points.
Wherever Manchester United go, drama follows. Thursday evening’s second leg against Lyon in the Europa League was always going to be emotional, but a nine-goal thriller took it to new heights.
Mark Clattenburg slams ‘ridiculous’ Corentin Tolisso red card
United were comfortable early on and took a two-goal lead into half-time. However, momentum switched when Lyon captain Corentin Tolisso scored.
Lyon drew level just six minutes later, and they were threatening to win it in standard time before Tolisso was shown a second yellow and sent off for tripping up Leny Yoro.
Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg spoke exclusively to United in Focus about Tolisso’s red card, and it’s fair to say he wasn’t too pleased with the decision.
“The Tolisso red card is a ridiculous decision,” he said.
“To receive a yellow card in this situation was for stopping a promising attack and this was not the case as there was a covering defender who could easily play the ball.
