Viktor Gyokeres, a transfer target for Manchester United, is keeping his future a secret despite rumors that he may leave Sporting CP during the summer transfer window.
When the transfer window opens in a few weeks, United is among the teams that have been strongly connected to a possible move for the striker. Given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, both of whom have failed to make a significant impact at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim will be eager to expand his strike options in the off-season.
During the manager’s tenure at Sporting, Gyokeres was employed by Amorim. Sporting defeated Vitoria 2-0 on Saturday to win La Liga Portugal, and he was on the scoresheet once more.
The striker may play in just one more Sporting match before leaving the team on May 25 against Benfica in the cup final.
When asked about his future after the match against Vitoria, the striker did not provide much details.
“It’s football, I’m still here. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Nobody can predict the future,” he told Sport TV after the game when asked if it would be his last game at Sporting’s Jose Alvalade Stadium.
United is not the only team that has been connected to Gyokeres. According to the most recent sources, Arsenal has already made the striker an offer of £7 million a year after taxes and is anticipated to formally bid against Sporting for the player, with personal terms already “agreed.”
After the current season ends, Arsenal is expected to make a bid of between €70 and €75 million (£58 and £63 million).
United may be focusing on a move for Liam Delap of Ipswich Town. Despite their relegation to the Championship, the England U21 international has made an impression in the Premier League this season.
