Wayne Rooney has identified the three signings he believes Manchester United should make when the summer transfer window opens and only two of them have never played for the club before.
Since leaving his management position at Plymouth Argyle on New Year’s Eve by mutual consent, the former United striker has been widely reported in the media.
After that, he had stints as manager of Derby County, DC United, and Birmingham City, all of which had issues he couldn’t control.
Rooney is frequently questioned about Manchester United. Now that he is back on the media circuit, he can share his thoughts on who he believes the team should sign in the transfer window.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana has had a torrid season at the base of an awful Red Devils team this season and a new stopper is top of Rooney’s target list.
“I’d probably sign David De Gea back,” the former United and England striker told Amazon Prime Video Sport. “I think Manchester United have missed him and I think he could still do a very good job for Manchester United.
Following rushed contract discussions, De Gea was abruptly released by United, missing a whole season of action.
With Fiorentina in Serie A, De Gea has largely recovered from his replacement’s terrible performance.
United also needs assistance at the other end due to Rasmus Hojund’s poor performance. Rooney is also interested in a striker.
“The second one, I’d probably sign [Victor] Osimhen as a number 9, I think he’s a very good striker and possibly available,” Rooney stated.
After his relationship with parent club Napoli soured, the Nigerian is currently on loan at Galatasaray. He might become available in the summer, as Rooney points out.
“For the third, I would definitely try to sign [Marc] Guehi from Crystal Palace as a center-back, though it would be challenging. He would, in my opinion, significantly improve the club.
In the Premier League, United has had a terrible season. Ruben Amorim took over as manager after Erik ten Hag was fired, but the team’s league performance hasn’t significantly improved.
As the season draws to a close, however, the carrot of a Champions League berth remains in their grasp.
A spot in Europe’s top club competition is up for grabs when Amorim’s team travels to Bilbao on Wednesday to play Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
