Manchester United have been handed a transfer boost after a shock upset in the final day of the Bundesliga season.
This season, defeating Tottenham in the 2025 Europa League final on Wednesday night is all that matters for the Red Devils.
A significant financial boost and entry into the Champions League for the following season are guaranteed when the trophy is lifted in Bilbao.
Since Manchester United has fallen to 16th place in the Premier League, it has been known for months that Ruben Amorim’s only chance of making it to Europe is to win the Europa League.
In Germany, it has been established that RB Leipzig will not be participating in any European competitions following a catastrophic collapse in the Bundesliga, while United may be excluded.
Door opens for Man United to sign RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons
Leipzig had lost their last five games of the Bundesliga season. They finished sixth on Saturday, falling short of European qualification after losing 3-2 to Stuttgart.
Leipzig ace Xavi Simons is expected to depart the team this summer as the German team prepares a summer roster revamp, according to Bild.
Simons was scouted by United this season in anticipation of a possible summer trade, and now everything is coming together.
According to reports, Simons’ current Leipzig deal, which is good until 2027, is worth £67 million this summer.
United wanted to sign Simons under Erik ten Hag, but it seems the 22-year-old Dutch star would also be a good fit for Ruben Amorim’s system as one of the two No.10s in his 3-4-2-1 system.
Man United may have to go head-to-head with Liverpool for Xavi Simons
United is not the only team interested in signing Xavi Simons, who is anticipated to depart this summer.
Given that Liverpool is also expressing a strong interest in a summer deal, United may have to compete with them for Simons.
According to recent sources, Liverpool may be closing in on Florian Wirtz, ending their pursuit of Simons and giving United a major advantage.

However, at £67 million, it would still be a significant purchase for United, and it would probably depend on the Red Devils making it to Europe.
That means beating Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday. As if any more pressure was needed.
