Manchester United’s set-piece vulnerabilities came to the surface yet again against Bournemouth, and Joshua Zirkzee was largely to blame – Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst took aim at the Dutch attacker for failing to compete with the Cherries’ Dean Huijsen.
Manchester United suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss at the hands of Bournemouth. Here are our player ratings from the game.
(A score of 6 is around average)
Andre Onana 4 -Well and truly beaten for all three goals. Poor distribution and on more than one occasion, held on to the ball for too long, sparking the anger of the home supporters.
Noussair Mazraoui 2 – Recklessy conceded a penalty when he brought down Justin Kluivert.
Harry Maguire 4 – Sloppy at times and endured a few shaky moments.
Lisandro Martinez 3.5 – Poor again. Lost Antoine Semenyo for Bournemouth’s third of the match.
Diogo Dalot 5 – Didn’t do much wrong but you can’t help but feel he could have done more, especially in attack.
Manuel Ugarte 7 – Busy in midfield again. Some excellent tackles and challenges in there that brought an end to spells of Bournemouth possession. United completely got overrun in midfield once he was taken off.
Kobbie Mainoo 4 – Not sharp enough, especially in possession. Even his link-up play was not up to the standard. Appears to be struggling to find his natural place under Ruben Amorim.
Tyrell Malacia 3 – Struggled a bit, especially early in the first half but grew into it a bit more as the game progressed. Didn’t offer an awful lot going forward. Gave away two silly fouls on the byline, one of which resulted in Bournemouth’s opening goal. Rightfully taken off at half time.
Amad Diallo 6 – Kept quiet by Milos Kerkez, who barely gave him room to breathe down the right. Had one or two promising sights of goal but he was unable to find the back of the net.
Bruno Fernandes 6.5 – Had three very good opportunities to score in the first half but he couldn’t hit the target. Kept trying to make things happen even when United seemed done and dusted.
Joshua Zirkzee 2 – Not involved in play nearly enough. Didn’t even have a shot at goal. Should have stuck tighter to Dean Huijsen for the visitors’ opener
Substitutes
Leny Yoro 5 – He and Fernandes could have perhaps done more to cut Evanilson’s pass to Dango Ouattara, or even locked down the Burkinabé footballer before he found Semenyo with the cutback.
Rasmus Hojlund 6 – Forced Kepa Arrizabalaga into a good save. Looked lively but unfortunately, couldn’t help United turn the game around.
Alejandro Garnacho 5 – Good chance to cut down Bournemouth’s lead when Hojlund put him through on goal but he couldn’t beat Arrizabalaga. Got into some good positions but failed to make the most of it.
