Arsenal has reportedly submitted their ‘final offer’ for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak in anticipation of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Gunners are experiencing a commendable season in the Premier League; however, it appears they may settle for second place for the third consecutive year.
Following a 1-0 victory over Chelsea, courtesy of a header from Mikel Merino, Arsenal has narrowed the gap to league leaders Liverpool to 12 points.
For Arsenal to have a chance at the Premier League title, a significant downturn in form from Arne Slot’s team, currently engaged in the League Cup final, would be necessary, especially since Liverpool has only suffered one defeat in the league this season.
While Arsenal still harbors hopes of clinching the Champions League, with a quarter-final matchup against Real Madrid scheduled for next month, the focus is already shifting towards the summer transfer period.
Recent months have indicated Arsenal’s intent to bolster their attacking options, with manager Mikel Arteta eager to enhance both his central and wide attacking players.
Numerous reports have linked the Gunners to a potential acquisition of Newcastle’s Isak, although the Magpies have shown little inclination to consider a transfer for the Swedish striker.
A new report from the Spanish outlet Fichajes suggests that Arsenal has made a ‘final offer’ of €120 million (£101 million) for Isak, who has become the club’s primary target for the forthcoming transfer window.
This substantial offer is said to demonstrate the London club’s commitment to securing the striker’s services, although the report notes that finalizing a deal may prove challenging.
Nevertheless, it is mentioned that those close to Isak have not dismissed the possibility of a move if the proposal is compelling enough.
Fichajes continues:
‘Arsenal’s interest in Isak isn’t new, but it has grown in recent months due to the need to find a reliable number 9.
‘Arteta believes the Swede would bring mobility, power, and goalscoring power to a team that, while creating plenty of chances, has lacked impact in the penalty area. The investment would be high, but the Emirates are convinced that signing Isak would represent a leap in quality for the squad.’
Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand believes that acquiring Isak could lead Arsenal to secure the Premier League title in the upcoming season.
On his YouTube channel, Ferdinand stated, “Arsenal supporters have been yearning for a true No.9 for the past two to three years.
“If they can bring Isak on board, it is a move they must make. His exceptional talent could be the key to winning the league, as he offers a unique dimension to the team.
“They have assembled many strong components, but now they require that additional element.”
