Bayern Munich join growing race to sign ‘Mr Consistent’ Man Utd star loved by teammates

German giants Bayern Munich have expressed interest in Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot, joining Real Madrid in the pursuit of a transfer during the summer window.

Bayern’s manager, Vincent Kompany, along with Real Madrid, has been particularly impressed by Dalot’s consistency and adaptability, qualities that have made him a target for elite European clubs.

Real Madrid’s interest in Dalot has been evident for some time, as they consider him alongside Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, should their attempts to secure top target Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool prove unsuccessful.

Since February 2023, Dalot has maintained an injury-free record, with his last injury setback occurring in 2019. Inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo, he has optimized his recovery, diet, and training regimen, establishing himself as one of the most dependable players at Manchester United. His discipline is noteworthy, having received only two suspensions throughout his tenure at the club.

Dalot’s versatility is another significant asset that has caught the attention of clubs monitoring his progress. He has excelled on both defensive flanks under various managers, proving to be an invaluable asset. Offensively, he has contributed seven goals and 13 assists over 15,686 minutes of play for United.

His exceptional performance during the 2023/24 season earned him the Players’ Player of the Season award at Old Trafford, reflecting the admiration and respect he commands from his teammates.

As major clubs keep a close watch on him, Dalot’s future remains uncertain; however, he is expected to remain a pivotal figure at Manchester United until any potential transfer materializes.

Dalot proving his worth

The 25-year-old has undeniably demonstrated his significance to both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim throughout this season.

With 2,307 minutes played in the Premier League, he has logged the highest total among outfield players for United, trailing only Andre Onana in overall minutes. He has been deployed on both the left and right flanks.

This season, he has recorded 33 interceptions, placing him 11th among all defenders in the Premier League, while his 56 tackles rank him 10th in that category.

Additionally, he stands fourth among United players for aerial duels won (29) and headed clearances (30). He is third in blocks (nine) and fifth in total clearances (52).

His versatility to operate effectively on both his preferred right side and the left makes him an appealing target for potential clubs, which explains the interest from teams like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid regarding his current status.

Furthermore, the recent signings of Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu in the past two transfer windows provide United with robust options at wing-back, should they choose to sell a player who still has three years remaining on his contract.
