Manchester United has shown interest in Marc Guehi for an extended period; however, recent reports suggest that the England international is poised to join Liverpool.
As reported by The Star on Sunday (via Paisley Gates), Liverpool appears to be in a strong position to secure the Three Lions center-back from Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window.
The British news source indicates that Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal have all evaluated the 24-year-old, who has emerged as a key player for the Eagles this season.
Chelsea is considered Liverpool’s main competitor in this pursuit, yet the Merseyside club is currently leading the efforts to finalize the transfer.
It has been reported that the Premier League leaders are anticipated to reach an agreement for a deal valued at £80 million to acquire Guehi from Selhurst Park.
During his time at Sporting, Ruben Amorim had notable center-backs like Diomande and Inacio, who played crucial roles in his three-at-the-back formation. Unfortunately, the current center-backs at Old Trafford have not demonstrated sufficient quality.
Last summer, Manchester United invested significantly to bring in Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt to bolster their central defense.
However, both players have yet to make a significant impact. Meanwhile, the performances of Maguire and Lindelof have been notably inconsistent over the years, and Lisandro Martinez continues to struggle with injuries.
In this context, Manchester United is in urgent need of a high-caliber center-back to strengthen their defense, and Guehi, with his experience in the Premier League, would have been an ideal fit. Nevertheless, it appears he is on his way to Liverpool.
