Manuel Ugarte has been named in the Manchester United matchday squad for tonight’s Europa League last-16 second leg against Real Sociedad.
The Uruguayan international had missed the previous two matches due to a minor injury, so his return provides a significant boost for head coach Ruben Amorim. He participated in an open training session at Carrington yesterday, and Amorim has indicated that he is available for selection this evening.
During Ugarte’s absence in the match against Sociedad last Thursday and the game against Arsenal on Sunday, Casemiro filled in alongside Bruno Fernandes in central midfield, and the Brazilian will be eager to retain his position tonight.
Additionally, Patrick Dorgu returns to the squad after serving the second match of his three-game domestic suspension during the Arsenal match on Sunday. He is anticipated to reclaim his spot in the starting lineup as left wing-back.
Amorim confirmed in yesterday’s pre-match press conference that Harry Maguire will again be unavailable due to injury, and he is now joined on the injury list by fellow centre-back Leny Yoro. Young player Tyler Fredricson has been included in the squad to cover for their absence.
Other young talents, including Harry Amass, James Scanlon, and Jack Fletcher, arrived at Old Trafford shortly after 4 PM today, indicating their potential inclusion in the matchday squad. United announced this morning that both Fredricson and Scanlon have been added to the squad following a decision to adjust their UEFA B List.
Other players who arrived ahead of the match include Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, Joshua Zirkzee, and Rasmus Hojlund.
So far, a total of 21 players have been accounted for, but the complete squad has yet to be finalized. Up to 12 substitutes may be named for a Europa League match.
