Bruno Fernandes was instrumental in guiding Manchester United to yet another triumph.
The fact that a two-match winning streak is celebrated speaks volumes about the current state of Manchester United’s season.
The 3-0 win against Leicester came on the heels of a 4-1 victory at home against Real Sociedad, creating a positive atmosphere within the club as they approach the international break.
Fernandes delivered a remarkable performance, netting one goal and providing two assists, while Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho also ended their scoring droughts during the match.
Praise for Matthijs de Ligt
Bruno Fernandes was named Manchester United’s man of the match after leading the team to a 3-0 victory away from home, bringing his total to 32 goal contributions for the season.
In an interview with MUTV, former player Wes Brown acknowledged Fernandes’ exceptional talent but also highlighted another player who he believed was a close contender.
Brown identified Matthijs de Ligt as a standout performer, noting that the defender continues to silence his critics.
When asked to select his man of the match, Brown stated, “De Ligt was outstanding today; had it not been for Bruno’s two assists and a goal, he might have taken that honor.
“For me, it has to be Bruno once again, in top form. The opportunities he creates for his teammates, and when he finds himself in a scoring position, he consistently strikes the ball with precision—one out of two shots is always on target, and he adds another goal to his tally.”
De Ligt commanding in defence
Matthijs de Ligt executed a remarkable late block to thwart Jamie Vardy in the closing moments of the match, demonstrating his commitment to securing United’s first Premier League clean sheet since January.
This was one of two crucial blocks he made during the match, in addition to recording six clearances and one interception.
In recent weeks, De Ligt has emerged as one of United’s most reliable players, stepping up in the face of injuries affecting nearly all other key defensive starters.
He has also provided significant support to the young talent Ayden Heaven, although it is unfortunate that the teenager had to be taken off on a stretcher due to injury.
The upcoming international break should provide an opportunity for some of United’s stars to recuperate, and we can only hope that De Ligt remains fit and continues his strong performance.
