Manchester United has a pressing need for a prolific goalscorer, and Viktor Gyokeres fits that description perfectly, making this potential transfer highly appealing. However, navigating the transfer window is not as straightforward as it may seem.
Viktor Gyokeres is poised to be a prominent figure in the upcoming summer transfer market, as he has captured the attention of clubs across Europe.
Currently, Gyokeres is setting impressive records in Portugal and for the Swedish national team, making him a sought-after goalscorer available at a reasonable price—an opportunity that many clubs would eagerly pursue.
Unfortunately, Manchester United risks falling behind in the race for Gyokeres, especially with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a surprising development involving Ruben Amorim is influencing the situation.
Ruben Amorim effect on Viktor Gyokeres transfer
When Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim as their manager, it was anticipated that the club would have a preferential option on players from Sporting.
Although Amorim had established strong connections with his players in Portugal, the situation has unfolded quite differently.
Geovany Quenda is already en route to Chelsea, and the transfer of Gyokeres to Manchester United appears increasingly probable.
Romano has now indicated that Amorim’s move to Manchester United may have adversely impacted the club’s prospects of acquiring players from Sporting.
In a discussion on his YouTube channel, Romano stated: “Gyokeres could depart from Sporting this summer. The expectation is that he will seek a new opportunity this summer.
“A verbal agreement was in place that Gyokeres would not push for a transfer a year ago, nor would he attempt to leave in January after Ruben Amorim’s departure.
“Consider the significant change and shock this represented for both Sporting and the player. He chose to honor that commitment. Now, as summer approaches, a transfer seems almost certain.”
Sporting wary of Man Utd now
It is evident that Sporting was significantly impacted by the abrupt departure of their esteemed manager during the season.
Amorim previously mentioned that he would not even entertain the idea of his players transferring to Old Trafford, as he had already jeopardized his relationships by leaving mid-season.
Currently, it is apparent that Sporting players are steering clear of such a transition, especially given that United’s competitive standing is not favorable.
Gyokeres aspires to secure major titles, and unless there is an extraordinary turnaround next season, United appears to be far from achieving that goal.
To jeopardize his reputation in Portugal for a move that offers little chance of fulfilling his primary objective is not a wise decision.
Given the shock of the situation, Amorim may be the last individual to transition from Sporting to Manchester United for the foreseeable future.
