Arsenal have the exciting prospect of facing Spanish giants Real Madid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final next month.

The Gunners thrashed PSV Eindhoven 9-3 on aggregate in the last-16 to set up a mouth-watering tie against Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Mikel arteta knows that should the Gunners progress past Madrid, then they will face either PSG or Aston Villa in the semi-finals.

Arsenal first leg against Real Madrid will be at Emirate stadium on Tuesday, April 8. The second leg will be held at Santiago Bernabeu the following week on Wednesday, April 16.

“Quite a fascinating draw,” Arteta said last week on the prospect of facing Los Blancos. “I think we’re going to play against the club with the biggest and most history in the competition and I’m very excited to play against them but before that we’ll have to have big matches in the Premier League.”

With Arsenal some way off the pace in the premier league  title race, the Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid could be the biggest match of the Gunners’ season. The Emirates Stadium on April 8 is expected to be a sell-out, with a ballot for tickets for Arsenal members closing on the official Arsenal website on Tuesday, March 20. Those who entered the ballot will find out if they are successful by around March 26.
