I spotted Ruben Amorim shouting at Manchester United player – before admitting his own mistake

Manchester United lost 1-0 against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Anthony Elanga has been in tremendous form and he opened the scoring against his former club within three minutes, picking up the ball in his own half and embarking on a superb run.

Amorim’s message for Zirkzee

Just a few moments after the first whistle, Ruben Amorim shouted at Joshua Zirkzee in an animated fashion, frantically waving his arms and ordering Zirkzee into a more advanced position.

It was surprising to see Ramus Hojlund moved to the bench after his well-taken goal against Leicester, especially when considering the bank of evidence that suggests Zirkzee is not a striker.

Amorim said Hojlund lost his place for “tactical reasons” but United’s head coach seemed to regret his decision within minutes of the game starting. Zirkzee has a tendency to drop into deeper positions and Amorim needed to cajole him forward to encourage him into the right area.

Zirkzee has found a home in one of the No.10 roles and was essentially played out of position against Nottingham Forest, so it was no surprise to see Amorim admit his mistake at half-time.

Amorim introduced Hojlund for Manuel Ugarte at the interval and dropped Fernandes back into the double pivot, which meant Zirkzee was relocated to the role he’s improved in.
