Lyon suffer major injury blow ahead of Manchester United showdown

Olympique Lyonnais has encountered a significant setback due to an injury ahead of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Manchester United scheduled for two weeks from now, as reported by L’Équipe.

Malick Fofana, 19, sustained a knee sprain while representing Belgium on international duty and is expected to be sidelined for three weeks. Consequently, he will be unavailable for Lyon’s match against RC Strasbourg Alsace this Friday, and more critically, he is anticipated to miss the first leg against Manchester United on April 10th.

Cherki a doubt, Almada unlikely to start

Fofana is anticipated to be available for the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final at Old Trafford, scheduled for one week later. The Belgian forward has been instrumental for Lyon this season, netting 10 goals and providing five assists across 35 matches in all competitions.

In addition, Rayan Cherki’s participation in Friday’s match against Strasbourg is uncertain, as he had to return to his club due to a bruised foot sustained while playing for France’s U21 team. Nevertheless, there is optimism that he may be able to play against Les Alsaciens. Conversely, Thiago Almada and Nicolás Tagliafico are unlikely to start, having represented Argentina in a match during the early hours of Wednesday.
