Manchester United’s offensive woes persisted in their Premier League loss to Chelsea on Friday night.
Rasmus Hojlund is Ruben Amorim’s only forward option because Joshua Zirkzee is out due to injury. With an average of barely one goal per ten games, the striker, who cost £72 million in 2023, has scored 10 goals this season.
Hojlund was on the field the entire time but was unable to contribute for the second consecutive Premier League game. It served as yet another example of why United has made acquiring a new striker a top priority during the summer transfer season.
Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha are Old Trafford’s top targets, with the Brazilian “optimistic” about joining the team. Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres have also been mentioned, but in the past 72 hours, a new wildcard option to strengthen the attack has surfaced.
This season, Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy has scored 33 goals in 43 games in Germany, making him one of Europe’s most productive strikers. Despite only joining the Yellow Wall last summer, the Guinea star is already being predicted to leave.
Guirassy’s contract at the Westfaldenstadion includes a €70 million (£60 million) release clause that is only available to a select few teams, including United, according to the German daily BILD.
According to reports, the release clause can be activated by United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Barcelona. According to the report, the clause cannot be activated by any other clubs.
Before moving to Dortmund, Guirassy was linked to a move to United. But in a £15 million deal, he departed Stuttgart to join the German powerhouses.
The £60 million the Dortmund forward is asking for is comparable to what United will have to pay to entice Cunha away from Wolves. Delap has one season of Premier League experience and a £30 million release clause at Ipswich Town.
