Manchester United exited the FA Cup this season in dramatic fashion, losing 4-3 on penalties to Fulham Friday night.
It was one of those games that highlighted the Red Devils’ inefficiency on the field this season, with the Cottagers appearing to have a much stronger roster in terms of talent, playstyle, and possibilities off the bench.
Andre Onana was the sole reason the Red Devils were able to take this game to penalties, as the Cameroonian shot-stopper made one big save after another to keep Ruben Amorim’s squad in the game.
However, that was insufficient for Manchester United to win, as they were unable to overcome the London club in the end.
Last night was another game in which Amorim started alongside Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, and it is fair to say that neither of them made the intended impression.
Hojlund was replaced in the second half by youngster Chido Obi-Martin, who showed more potential than the Dane during his time on the pitch.
The FA Cup exit was a timely reminder that Man Utd needed to reinforce the number nine position ahead of next summer.
As per Spanish source, Fichajes, Man Utd are now prepared to pay release clause by agreeing £62million fee with Napoli to sign talented but out-of-favor Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen has been one of the best strikers in Europe for some time now. Having fallen out with the Italian club, he is now currently playing on loan at Galatasaray where he has been impressing with 12 goals in 19 league games and there is no doubt that he would be eyeing a move to a top European club next summer.
While Manchester United can profit from having the African striker on their roster, Osimhen may not want to transfer to Old Trafford and join a club that does not routinely compete in the Champions League and challenge for championships. He is too good a player to be fighting for a mid-table spot as the Red Devils are right now.
If Ruben Amorim expects to establish a winning project in Manchester, he will undoubtedly require a consistent striker up front.
His team’s current performance is insufficient, and harsh decisions must be taken in the summer for the club’s benefit.
The upcoming summer is make or break for Manchester United, and they must get their recruitment strategy right in order to remain competitive.
At the moment, they represent little more than a midtable Premier League club with a beautiful history, and we’ll see if that changes in the future.
