Man United prepared to accept £55.7m fee to secure transfer of star player away from Old Trafford

Manchester United defeated Olympique Lyonnais by making a dramatic comeback last night in the Europa League quarter-final second leg.

Following a 2-2 draw in the first leg, the tie was nicely poised, and the Red Devils managed to earn a 2-0 lead in the first half at Old Trafford. However, the visitors turned the game around in the second half and took the game to extra time.

Les Gones even took a 4-2 lead in the second half of extra time, but United scored three late goals against 10-men Lyon and eventually won the game 5-4.

Although Ruben Amorim’s side scored five goals, their striker, Rasmus Hojlund, couldn’t find the back of the net even once. Meaning, he has netted only once in the last 27 games in all competitions.

Caught Offside state that following the Dane’s poor performances since joining from Atalanta, Man Utd are prepared to remove him from their books. However, they don’t want to sell him for cheap and want at least £55.7m[€65m].

Despite Hojlund’s disappointing spell in the Premier League, he is still highly rated by Italian clubs due to his promising spell with La Dea and Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli are all interested in signing him.

The Nerazzurri are even planning to step up efforts to seal the deal quickly by beating other clubs in this race.

Man Utd signed Hojlund for a £72m fee ahead of last season, and he made 18 goal contributions in his debut campaign at Old Trafford.

However, he has regressed this term, scoring only eight goals in all competitions, with only three coming in the Premier League in 27 matches.

So, considering his poor form, United’s asking price is too inflated, but they are in difficult financial situation and can’t afford to take losses at the moment.

Moreover, if they let Hojlund leave, a new striker will be needed to replace him. Hence, it is understandable why they want the reported £55.7m fee to sell the Dane
