Man United receive double boost ahead of Real Sociedad showdown but Ruben Amorim is facing centre-back crisis

Manuel Ugarte and Mason Mount have returned to training with Manchester United in preparation for Thursday’s Europa League match against Real Sociedad. However, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro were absent from Wednesday’s training session.

Maguire has been sidelined for the last two matches due to an injury sustained during the FA Cup encounter with Fulham on March 2. Yoro, on the other hand, was substituted at halftime during the recent match against Arsenal due to a foot problem, resulting in both players missing the training session.

With Lisandro Martinez ruled out for the remainder of the season, head coach Ruben Amorim faces the decision of whether to include Noussair Mazraoui and Victor Lindelof alongside Matthijs de Ligt in a three-man defense or to opt for Ayden Heaven.

Amorim expressed high regard for Heaven’s performance off the bench against Arsenal in their last Premier League outing, but it remains uncertain if the 18-year-old will be considered ready to start the match.

On a positive note for Manchester United, Ugarte and Mount’s return to training on Wednesday provides a boost for the team. Ugarte had missed the previous two matches due to an injury sustained against Fulham in the FA Cup, but he is expected to be available for the upcoming European fixture against Real Sociedad on Thursday evening.

Yoro, Maguire miss training but Ugarte, Mount return

Mount has returned to training, marking a significant comeback for the England international after an absence of three months.

The former Chelsea playmaker has been sidelined since mid-December due to a muscular injury, but he participated in Wednesday’s training session, providing a substantial boost to the 20-time English champions.

Although Mount is expected to miss the upcoming matches against Real Sociedad and Leicester City, he may be available for selection following the March international break, contingent upon a successful recovery.

The 26-year-old has faced multiple injury challenges during his tenure at Old Trafford, having made only 32 appearances since joining the club. He is now eager to make a strong contribution for the remainder of the season.

Additionally, Patrick Dorgu will be available for the match against Real Sociedad despite a domestic suspension, and he is anticipated to play as the left-sided wing-back, with Diogo Dalot positioned on the right, as Mazraoui is likely to be utilized in a back three.

The last-16 Europa League tie remains finely balanced after a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week.
