Manchester United may need to prepare for Antony to request a substantial financial settlement if they intend to part ways with the Brazilian, as suggested by former Old Trafford goalkeeper Ben Foster.
Currently, the Brazilian winger is on loan at Real Betis, where he appears to be enjoying his football more than during his time in England. In 14 appearances for United this season, he scored only one goal, while in Spain, he has netted four goals and provided four assists in 11 matches.
The future plans for both Antony and the clubs involved are closely linked. United aims to transfer the Brazilian, while Real Betis has been sufficiently impressed with the 25-year-old’s performances to express interest in retaining him, albeit potentially through an extended loan arrangement.
Despite Antony not being included in Ruben Amorim’s current plans, Manchester United continues to cover his wages. Foster believes that if the club wishes to permanently release Antony, it could come at a significant financial cost.
On the Fozcast podcast, he remarked, “Regarding Antony, the speculation suggests he earns around £200,000 a week, and there are not many teams globally that can afford to sign him.
“Antony has two or three years remaining on his contract with Manchester United and is unlikely to accept a pay cut by moving to one of these clubs offering £100,000 a week.”
“I don’t care how much money you’re on, if somebody says ‘Your wages are going to get cut by 50 per cent next year’ then it hurts.
