Manchester United have identified Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier as a potential target with Altay Bayindir struggling to impress, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon. Meslier has struggled for form at Leeds this season and an exit in January is a possibility with Arsenal also reportedly showing an interest in the Frenchman (Steve Kay).
Leeds have had a good season but have been held back by mealier after several mistakes leading to dropped points and according to Nixon Man Utd may offer him an exit route.
Via his Patreon (22 December), Nixon claims that Man Utd will “ideally wait” until the end of the season to recruit a ‘keeper but Bayindir’s potential exit could force them into a move in January with Meslier on their list of replacements.
Leeds United need rid of Illan Meslier
Meslier is arguably the most talked about Leeds player this season and almost definitely for all of the wrong reasons.
The Frenchman has been in poor form since matchday one and his habit of making mistakes in closely contested encounters has seen the Whites drop far too many points.
A mistake in Leeds 1:1 draw against Preston caused them to drop two points while it was a similar story when the Whites travelled to face Sunderland earlier in the season with a last-minute howler gifting the Black Cats a point.
If promotion is to be the aim, a better ‘keeper is a must and failure to attract one could prove detrimental in the push for a Premier League return as the league is that close.
The Whites trail Sheffield United by three points at the top of the table with Meslier the main man to blame for that and Leeds have to address it.
