Man Utd ‘accept £29m transfer agreement’ with Real Madrid – but deal must wait until May 25

According to sources, Real Madrid and Manchester United are negotiating a trade for Benfica defender Alvaro Carreras that would be advantageous to both teams.

The Premier League season has been awful for the Red Devils, as Ruben Amorim’s squad is presently 16th in the standings and has lost eight straight games.

With just ten league victories, only four Premier League sides have scored fewer goals than Manchester United this season.

Amazingly, if Manchester United defeats Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, they could still earn a spot in the Champions League this season.

The Red Devils’ summer spending plan may be altered if they qualify for the Champions League because Amorim’s team is rumored to need to sell in order to acquire the players they desire.

Furthermore, Spanish publication Defensa Central maintains that Real Madrid and Manchester United could have increased Amorim’s budget before the summer.

Manchester United has “accepted the transfer agreement” that the La Liga powerhouses have developed, and Real Madrid is now “focusing their attention” on acquiring Benfica left-back Carreras.

In an effort to lower the cost, Benfica presently wants Real Madrid to fulfill Carreras’ €50 million release clause in his contract with Los Blancos.

Man Utd is willing to activate the €18 million buy-back provision they included in his contract after selling him to Benfica, and now “an unexpected offer has appeared on the table that could help Madrid.”

In a move that would benefit both the Premier League team and the Spanish powerhouses, the Red Devils would only be doing so “so they can sell him” to Real Madrid for €35 million.

“This way, Los Blancos would get a substantial reduction in their price to secure his services,” the article continues. A portion of the agreement would also go to the Red Devils.

However, any transfer negotiations must wait until at least May 25 due to Carrera’s obligations at Benfica, where the Portuguese team is playing in their domestic cup final.

Although his team’s dismal Premier League performance is putting pressure on Amorim, the Manchester United manager is eager for the Europa League final and the upcoming campaign.

When pushed on their awful Premier League season after another defeat against Chelsea on Friday, Amorim replied: “We have full acknowledgement of that. We’ve already talked about that. Nothing is going to change this season.

“The best way to is to prepare for the final, try to win a trophy this season and prepare for the next one. So, we know that we are in a season where we’ve struggled a lot. We cannot do nothing about that. That is in the past. We need to look at the present, the present is to prepare for the final and then to prepare for next season.”
