Despite Ruben Amorim’s declaration of support for Rasmus Hojlund, senior Manchester United officials have apparently given up on the player. With just four Premier League goals in 31 games, Hojlund has had a dismal season at Old Trafford. The struggling Dane is expected to start in the Europa League final next week as United looks to win a trophy to cap off their miserable season.
Hojlund made a high-profile move to the Red Devils from Atalanta two years ago, but he hasn’t been able to defend the astronomical transfer fee. Due to his lack of firepower and dubious work rate, he has received a lot of criticism in recent months. Due to his dismal play, there are rumors that the forward may depart Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign, assuming a buyer is found.
As Hojlund approaches the end of his second season at United, the club’s management is reportedly growing impatient with him. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, senior officials are ‘not having’ the concept of maintaining him for the upcoming season because of his work rate.
It is ‘well-established’, according to the source, that he will be replaced in the summer because he hasn’t shown himself to be a useful member of the Liverpool team.
It comes just days after Amorim jumped to the defence of Hojlund, insisting he was ‘happy’ with his performance against Chelsea despite the absence of any goal threat.
