Manchester United fans have had a major change in opinion about Rayan Cherki following their dramatic win over Lyon in the Europa League.
Despite a valiant effort from Lyon, United progressed to the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday night following a dramatic second leg quarter-final clash at Old Trafford.
After the first leg in Lyon finished as a 2-2 draw, the tie was decided by a chaotic 5-4 win for United that required a massive goal from unlikely hero Harry Maguire in the dying moments of the match.
As the dust settles in the wake of the match, it’s safe to say that United fans have had a massive change of heart about signing Lyon star Cherki, but it’s not because of his impressive performance.
The 21-year-old winger stood out as perhaps the best player on the pitch for both legs of Lyon’s Europa League quarter-final against United, scoring at home and again at Old Trafford.
With the transfer window set to open in little over a month, Cherki has been linked with several top Premier League clubs, but despite his impressive performances recently, United fans have made it clear they don’t want to sign hm for one specific reason.
During the highly-tense game at Old Trafford, Cherki decided to escalate the situation further by riling up the home fans when celebrating Lyon’s comeback after being 2-0 down at half-time.
A clip that has gone viral on social media shows the winger approaching a group of home fans and grabbing his groin while grinning at the United supporters.
Reacting to the clip, one fan wrote: “Keep this s***hole of a player as far away as possible.”
While another agreed, adding: “Never try to bring him to the club even if he is the best player in the world.”
Another claimed: “If he was auditioning himself for a spot in the United team, he failed badly with that disgusting gesture. Absolute shame as he is quite the player.”
