Manchester United noticed what Marcus Rashford and other former and current stars did after Andre Onana’s brutal row with Nemanja Matic.
United took on Lyon in the Europa League quarter final first leg on Thursday and former Red Devils midfielder Matic, now playing with the French outfit, did the pre-match press conference.
But the Serbian hit headlines in the build-up when he responded to a remark Onana made about feeling as though United are the better side by calling him “one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history”.
In a statement on X, Onana hit back by bringing up Matic’s lack of trophies with United, “At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same.”
But the former Inter Milan man’s comments came back to haunt him as he made two costly mistakes in the 2-2 draw at the Groupama Stadium – including spilling a late shot to gift Rayan Cherki a 95th minute leveller.
Matic was an unused substitute for Lyon and did not appear to have any interaction with Onana.
But after the game he was in the dressing room with members of United’s staff who he worked with during his spell at Old Trafford.
Matic shared the snap on Instagram, with the caption “Nice to see my brothers again”.
And it was liked by current captain Bruno Fernandes and Rashford, currently on loan at Aston Villa after being frozen out by Ruben Amorim.
Former stars David De Gea, Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Alvaro Fernandez also acknowledged the post.
