Manchester United ought to explore the possibility of acquiring Southampton prodigy Tyler Dibling following an unforeseen setback this week.
The Red Devils are anticipated to pursue several signings during the summer transfer window, with a new right wing-back likely being a primary focus.
Manager Ruben Amorim had aimed for a reunion with Sporting CP’s rising star Geovany Quenda, but those plans have been thwarted.
On Thursday night, Chelsea intervened in United’s efforts, reaching an agreement to sign the 17-year-old from Sporting CP for the upcoming year, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
United must act swiftly in response to this setback and identify a viable alternative.
In our view, the club should seize the chance to acquire Dibling, who has made a significant impact with the Saints in the Premier League this season.
Despite Southampton’s struggles at the bottom of the table, Dibling has been a standout performer, showcasing his talent.
The young player has contributed to six goals this season, playing various roles including right winger, attacking midfielder, and striker for the South Coast team.
We believe that the left-footed talent is well-equipped to excel as a right wing-back.
Dibling has demonstrated considerable defensive capabilities this season, effectively tracking back with an average of 4.3 duels won and two recoveries per match.
He averages one tackle per game and has accumulated six yellow cards in the process. Offensively, he also contributes with 1.5 dribbles per match.
At just 19 years old, he is likely to improve further with more creative teammates around him. He would be a more advantageous signing than Quenda, given his greater experience and familiarity with the Premier League.
During the last transfer window, Southampton was unwilling to sell him for less than £55 million, although some clubs expressed readiness to pay £40 million to secure his transfer.
We believe that the price could be negotiable, especially considering the club’s likely relegation. United should actively pursue Dibling after missing out on Quenda.
