Manchester United gave Ademola Lookman a transfer boost worth £45 million.

Latest Manchester United transfer news ahead of the summer transfer window: Atalanta’s stance on the sale of Ademola Lookman emerges.

Manchester United’s prospects of luring Ademola Lookman to the club have received a huge boost following suggestions of a possible departure this summer.

Lookman’s exploits in Italy have prompted speculation about a return to England over the last 18 months. The Nigerian attacker helped Atalanta win the Europa League last season, scoring a hat-trick against German champions Bayer Leverkusen.

A summer move has been mooted following a public conflict with Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini over the club’s recent Champions League exit. Gasperini described Lookman as one of the “worst penalty takers” after he missed a penalty against Club Brugge.

It has cast doubt on his future at the Gewiss Stadium, with a move to one of Europe’s premier clubs expected. Lookman was close to signing Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but the club has since signed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Juventus has been linked with a summer transfer for Lookman, but Atalanta is reportedly reluctant to sell to one of their Serie A rivals. Midfielder Teun Koopmeiners moved to Turin last summer and it has benefited the Old Lady.

It indicates that a move to England is more possible, with many teams setting up a transfer. United are one of the teams associated with the former Fulham and Leicester City player, who has an enticing release clause in his contract.

The clause is said to be worth €55 million (£45.4 million), which may be a good piece of business to help Ruben Amorim’s offensive. However, with no European football on the horizon, other clubs may have an edge in the competition.
