Real Betis player Isco humorously suggested what the club might need to do in order to secure a permanent transfer for Antony from Manchester United.
Antony, who joined Betis on loan during the January transfer window, is contracted to the club until the season’s end. Originally signed for £85 million in 2022, he found himself lower in the squad hierarchy under new head coach Ruben Amorim this season.
Before his loan to Betis, Antony had managed to score only one goal in 14 appearances for United. However, since arriving in Spain, he has made a significant impact, netting four goals and providing four assists in just 12 matches, establishing himself as a vital player for the La Liga team.
On Sunday evening, Antony played a crucial role in helping Betis secure a 2-1 victory against local rivals Sevilla, enhancing their prospects of qualifying for the next season’s Champions League. Isco, a former star at Real Madrid, praised Antony’s contributions and shared what has “surprised” him about his new teammate.
“We might need to organize one of those crowdfunding campaigns to see if we can keep him for at least another year,” Isco joked during an interview with DAZN.
He added, “I’m delighted to have Antony with us. He has genuinely surprised us all with the humility he displayed upon his arrival and his eagerness to assist and contribute. We are truly pleased.”
Isco noted the positive change since Antony’s arrival, expressing happiness for both the player and the team, and a desire to continue performing well.
Antony is set to return to Manchester United this summer at the end of his loan period, but a permanent transfer could be on the horizon when the summer transfer window opens. The current loan agreement with Betis does not include an option for a permanent move, leaving it uncertain whether the La Liga club will pursue Antony when the window reopens.
