Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider United’s spending power will be clearer once it’s confirmed whether or not they will be competing in Europe next season.

Ruben Amorim’s side drew 2-2 with Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie, with the second leg taking place at Old Trafford on Thursday (17 April

Man United could face transfer blow after stunning twist
Borson revealed United will likely have a limited transfer budget this summer if they don’t qualify for the Champions League despite their hopes of signing Cunha.

He told Football Insider: “It’s not that much money £62million in the grand scheme of things

“He’s a very good player, so I think it’s a doable deal.

“They have got so many issues to fill this summer. They will have a limited budget unless they can move on perhaps one of the youngsters to try and generate some profit.

“I think it’s very hard to say whether it’s doable or not. I think you have to assume that United will probably sell one of the younger players and, therefore, that will open up more room for maneuver.

“Then on top of that, it’s almost binary for Manchester United in terms of an active and aggressive summer. Win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League, then they can spend quite a lot of money
