Ruben Amorim began his tenure as Manchester United’s new head coach just four days before Juventus and Paul Pogba announced they had mutually agreed to terminate the midfielder’s contract.
This marks the time Pogba has been a free agent since leaving Juventus, with the winter transfer window now closed and no new move made. However, free transfers can still happen outside of the transfer window. Pogba is likely in no rush to secure a new deal, as he’s unable to play until next month when his 18-month doping ban ends, though he has been able to train since the beginning of this year. MEN Sport explores the latest updates on Pogba’s situation and what may lie ahead.
Pogba’s former Manchester United teammate, Rio Ferdinand, suggested he would offer the player the opportunity to train with the club if he were in charge. On the latest episode of Rio Presents, Ferdinand said: “You’d like to think he’d be going somewhere soon. Surely, he has to move on.
“If Pogba came back to United? I’d say, ‘Come in and train with us and let’s see what you’ve got.’ That’s what I’d do. I would’ve done it already. I’d say, ‘Get fit, and let’s take a closer look.’
