Former Manchester and Juventus star Midfielder, Paul Pogba has been backed to kick on when he finds a new club as the former Manchester United midfielder eyes a return to football following his ban from the sport
A former team-mate of Paul Pogba’s at Manchester United has expressed his excitement for the midfielder’s return to football.
Pogba left Juventus by mutual consent in December following a 15-month spell away from professional football. The Frenchman was initially banned from the sport for four years after he tested positive for a banned substance which can increase the growth of testosterone in the body.
The 32-year-old’s suspension was later cut to 18 months on appeal after the authorities decided that he had not deliberately taken the substance. Pogba’s ban ended last month and he is now on the lookout for a new club.
And ex-United defender Brandon Williams is looking forward to seeing him back in action after revealing a private chat between the pair. Williams said Pogba will have found it difficult being out for such a long period, but has backed him to kick on and praised his close connection with the city of Manchester.
Speaking on former United goalkeeper Ben Foster’s Fozcast podcast, Williams said: “He has got everything. If you had to build a midfielder, you’re building someone like him. I’m excited for him to be back and to see how he gets on. It would have been a tough time for him.
“I was actually away in America about two years ago and I spoke to him and he was asking how I was. He’s basically from Manchester and he was here from such a young age.
“He knows what type of people we are as well as Mancunians, even with Jesse [Lingard] and Marcus [Rashford]. He gets that side of the banter so I can actually talk to him on a serious level and a jokey level.”
United were linked with a reunion with Pogba at one stage, while Mason Greenwood insisted that he would be pleased for his old team-mate to join him at Marseille. However, neither move is likely according to Fabrizio Romano.
He claimed that Marseille had been offered the chance to bring him in but had rejected it, while United are also understood not to have shown an interest. Manchester City were also linked with Pogba in January, but those rumours have since been quashed.
Pogba has recently been spotted in Miami and has watched David Beckham’s team Inter Miami in person, leading to speculation he could join the MLS franchise. However, his desire to return to the French national team could make it difficult for such a move to work
