“Quite astonishing…” – Journalist blown away by shock Man Utd claim made in last 48 hours

Manchester United is likely to encounter significant challenges in offloading surplus players, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s determination to reduce Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer, as suggested by journalist Jason Burt.

The Red Devils are poised for yet another demanding transfer window and are reportedly facing substantial financial losses from the departures of several key players.

In a candid interview earlier this week, Ratcliffe provided a stark evaluation of players he believes the club has overpaid for in recent years, naming individuals such as Casemiro, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, among others.

The minority owner of United even described some members of the Old Trafford squad as ‘not good enough’ and indicated that the process of clearing out players will require time, given the club’s challenging financial circumstances.

Man United Eager to Offload Stars

‘They’re going to make huge losses’

Burt, speaking on the Back Pages podcast, suggested that United will struggle to find suitors for stars on big wages and are set to make losses on past player investments:

“Clubs and agents and players aren’t stupid. They’ll know that they’re not wanted at Manchester United. The big issue is just taking their contracts. Who’s going to pay those contracts?

“Jim Ratcliffe can say whatever he wants in terms of getting them out or, you know, them being overpaid and so-and-so.

“But he’s got to do the deals to make them move on. That’s the bottom line. Other clubs out there know the situation, they’ll come in low ball.

“Manchester United has got to take the medicine. Basically, they’re not going to sell high on these players. You know, it’s just the situation they’re in at the moment.

“They’re going to make huge losses, and they’re just going to have to grin and bear it and get on with it.

“If they’re going to actually turn the squad around, some of those players have to be paid off, or they have to get deals that are more favorable to them to get them out of the club. That’s just the way it is.

“And I do think it’s quite astonishing for a club owner to speak quite so frankly. I welcome it to a degree. I think sometimes you’re going to have to call it as it is.”

Manchester United is on track to achieve their poorest finish in Premier League history, currently positioned 14th and trailing eighth place by 10 points, a position they secured last season under the management of Erik ten Hag.

Amorim’s team has struggled offensively, ranking among the lowest-scoring squads in the league with only 28 goals in 24 matches this season.

It is anticipated that United will release several first-team players this summer, as contracts for Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton are set to expire.

Additionally, Marcus Rashford and Antony may also depart permanently once their loan agreements with Aston Villa and Real Betis, respectively, conclude.
