Manchester United are looking for a squad overhaul this summer and signing a new striker to address their goal-scoring problems is one of the main priorities.
Purchasing a new midfielder as a potential long-term replacement for struggling Casemiro is also on Ruben Amorim’s agenda.
Moreover, it appears he is willing to hire a new center-back, although the Red Devils purchased Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro last summer.
Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are past their primes with the Swedish international set to become a free agent at the end of this season. Moreover, the Englishman’s current deal will expire in 2026.
Additionally, Jonny Evans, who has been out injured over the last few months, is alsoexpected to leave as a free agent this summer. Therefore, hiring new defenders to replace them is a must.
It was reported last summer that Man Utd were interested in Sporting CP star, Goncalo Inacio, but they never made a formal approach.
Now, Portuguese outlet, A Bola, claim that although United didn’t go for the 23-year-old ahead of this campaign, they remain keen on securing his service and could finally make a move this summer.
The player has a contract until 2027 at Jose Alvalade Stadium and has a £50m[€60m] release clause but the Lions are ready to cash-in on him for a fee of around £37.5m[€45m].
Borussia Dortmund wanted Inacio in the winter window but Sporting didn’t allow his departure in mid-season. Apart from Man Utd, other Premier League clubs are also interested in the defender.
But the Red Devils have a good relationship with the player’s agent, Miguel Pinho, who is Bruno Fernandes’s representative as well. So, this could be an advantage for United in this race.
Inacio flourished his career at Jose Alvalade Stadium under Amorim’s guidance, winning two league titles and several other major domestic cup competitions.
In 28 Liga Portugal starts, Inacio scored a solitary goal and kept 13 clean sheets last term. This campaign, he has made five goal contributions and kept six clean sheets in 17 league starts thus far.
In your view, should Man Utd pay £37.5m to finally sign Inacio?
