Manchester United supporters are currently processing the news that Dan Ashworth has departed the team after their loss to Nottingham Forest.
After a protracted departure from Newcastle United, Ashworth formally joined Manchester United at the start of July.
It was believed that United had a strong partnership at Old Trafford with the signing of Ruben Amorim last month, with Ashworth supporting the former Sporting CP player.
However, following a meeting with Omar Berrada, Ashworth reportedly departed his position in a fairly “mutual” agreement, according to The Athletic.
Ashworth was spotted in a gloomy mood after the 3-2 defeat to Forest on Saturday, perhaps because of this decision that’s now become public.
Who will replace Dan Ashworth at Man United?
As of now, it’s too soon to know exactly who Sir Jim Ratcliffe will target to replace Ashworth at Old Trafford, presuming that a direct alternative is brought in.
Following Edu Gaspar’s decision to leave Arsenal, the north Londoners are also thought to be scouring the market right now.
And although he’s on the cusp of joining Evangelos Marinakis’ project overseeing multiple clubs including Nottingham Forest, perhaps it’s not even impossible that United will explore Edu’s situation.
It seems unlikely that Edu will turn his back on Marinakis’ project at this stage, and he would also surely be wary of the backlash of joining United from an Arsenal point of view.
Roberto Olabe could be the perfect Dan Ashworth replacement
More realistically, United may turn their attention to Roberto Olabe, a highly-regarded sporting director who is leaving his role at Real Sociedad.
Explaining how entangled Arsenal and United’s respective searches may become, Olabe is also thought to be on the Gunners’ radar too.
