A “sensational” player from Manchester United is reportedly on the verge of departing the club due to a contract impasse, with indications suggesting he may transfer to a competing Premier League team, as stated in a recent report.
Major rebuild needed at Old Trafford
Ruben Amorim has pulled no punches when talking about the squad he’s inherited, making a big statement after his side’s 3-1 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion back in January.
“We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know you [media] want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines.”
Since then, there have been very few signs of improvement, with the Red Devils languishing in 14th place and exiting the FA Cup at the hands of Fulham, so it is clear that a major revamp will be needed in the summer.
Recent reports have indicated that Casemiro’s tenure at Old Trafford may be nearing its conclusion. Additionally, uncertainty surrounds Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, both of whom have struggled to find the back of the net this season.
Moreover, Manchester United may need to prepare for another departure that could be particularly painful, as a report from Spain suggests that Kobbie Mainoo is on the verge of leaving Old Trafford.
Mainoo is currently in a contract dispute, seeking a substantial new deal in recognition of his commendable performances. However, the lack of advancement in negotiations may compel him to explore opportunities elsewhere.
Chelsea appears to be poised to pursue the midfielder, having identified him as a prime target. Former scout Mick Brown has indicated that Manchester United might be open to accepting a £70 million offer to generate funds for additional transfers.
“Sensational” Mainoo would be a big loss
A significant weakness of the PSR system is that Premier League clubs frequently find themselves compelled to sell their academy graduates for immediate financial gain in order to adhere to financial regulations. Should United choose to accept a £70 million offer, the departure of the 19-year-old could represent a substantial loss.
Sky Sports’ Joe Thomlinson has praised the central midfielder as “sensational” this season, noting that he has consistently featured in matches when fit. However, his campaign has been hampered by injuries, preventing him from fully realizing his potential.
Mainoo’s performance in last season’s FA Cup final highlighted his capabilities, as he was awarded the Man of the Match title for his significant contribution to United’s victory over their rivals, Manchester City.
Given the financial issues United are facing, it could be tempting to cash-in for a £70m fee, but it would be painful to see Mainoo in a Chelsea shirt.
