Manchester United may provide a senior debut as they prepare to face Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday evening. Ruben Amorim’s team is set to compete for the last time before the international break, but they are confronted with a selection dilemma for this match.
Andre Onana is unlikely to be fit enough to start due to a recent illness, and both Atlay Bayindir and Tom Heaton remain unavailable due to injuries. This situation leaves United with limited options for a senior goalkeeper, with Dermot Mee, Hubert Graczyk, and Elyh Harrison available for Amorim to consider for the encounter against Leicester.
Mee has yet to make a senior appearance for the club, and here is all the pertinent information regarding him in anticipation of a potential debut.
Who is Dermot Mee?
Full name: Dermot William Mee
Date of Birth: 20 November 2002 (22 years)
Position: Goalkeeper
Squad number: 45
Mee transferred to United from Walsall in 2019 but has yet to make a competitive appearance for the team. Although he hails from Birmingham, he plays for Northern Ireland at the youth international level. The 22-year-old was loaned to Altrincham in August 2022, where he made four senior appearances during his six-month tenure. Additionally, he has had loan spells with Fulham’s academy, Trafford FC, Runcorn Linnets, and Witton Albion, as well as a work experience loan with AFC Wimbledon.
In 2023, Mee was part of a young United squad that traveled to San Diego for a pre-season friendly against Wrexham, although he did not participate in the match. Throughout his time at the club, he has consistently trained with the first team and has played in the EFL Trophy and Premier League 2.
In recognition of his potential, the young goalkeeper was awarded a new contract with the club in August 2023 and was assigned the No. 45 shirt for the ongoing season.
